Step 1: Identify Your Valve Prefix
Find the model tag on the gearbox or valve body. You’re looking for a part number prefix like:
Prefix Example | Series Name | Visual Cue |
AB, ABS, ABD, AC, ACS |
AB Series (legacy) |
May have swiveling or straight elbow |
AX, AP, AZ, AQ |
Jumbo Series |
Bulbous body with or without elbow |
AXD, AXE, AZD, AZE |
Jumbo Low Profile |
Elbow exits downward, loops up |
Can’t find the tag? Snap a photo and contact us — we’ll ID it for you.
Step 2: Choose the Right Repair Kit
For Basic Leaks (Valve Seat Replacement Only)
Valve Prefix | Kit | Fixes | Includes |
AB, ABS, ABD, AC, ACS |
A1520-KIT | Leaking past the ball | Valve seat, 5"/6" gaskets, grease, Loctite |
AX, AP, AZ, AQ, AXD, AXE, AZD, AZE |
A1082-KIT | Leaking past the ball | Valve seat, 5"/6" gaskets, grease, Loctite |
Use this kit if the valve shuts off but water seeps through.
For Full Rebuilds (Internal Seal Issues)
Valve Prefix | Kit | Fixes | Includes |
AB, ABS, AC, ACS |
A1520-CRK | Gearbox or swivel leaks | All parts in -KIT + O-rings, cup seals, bearing strips |
AX, AP, AZ, AQ, AXD, AXE, AZD, AZE | A1082-CRK | Gearbox or swivel leaks | All parts in -KIT + O-rings, cup seals, bearing strips |
All ABD NewForce Series Valves | ABD1520-CRK | Gearbox or swivel leaks | This kit includes the hose side connection seals - no need to order additionally |
Note: Typically a complete rebuild will consist of one of the appropriate -CRK kits and the seals and bearing strips associated with the correct Hose Side Connection.
Use these if:
-
Valve leaks when closed and shows signs of PRV or gearbox seepage
-
You’re already disassembling the valve and want to replace all wearable seals
Step 3: Match Your Hose-Side Seal
If your intake valve uses a swiveling elbow or large-diameter hose connection (LDH), you may need extra seals to fully stop leaks.
These are not included in the standard -KIT or -CRK repair kits and must be selected separately based on your hose connection type.
Use the chart below to find the exact cup seals, bearing strips, and hose gaskets required for your configuration.
Hose Side Connection | Additional LDH Connection Seals |

Step 4: Identify Optional Tools & Related Kits
Some valve rebuilds require additional tools or specialty kits not included in the standard -KIT or -CRK packages. If you’re servicing or removing specific components, consider these items:
Repair Kit | Description |
THA401-KIT | Coupling Bearing Strip Removal Tool |
THA406-KIT | Seat Ring Removal Tool (All series except AN) |
THA409-KIT | Seat Ring Removal Tool for AN and ABD series |
THA081-KIT | Seat Ring Removal Tool for AXD and AXE valves with 5" Truck Side Coupling |
A1621-KIT | Vent/Drain Kit |
PRV-KIT | Rebuild Kit for PRVs manufactured after 6/2012 |
A4178-KIT | 4" Storz Lock Lever Replacement Kit (for couplings made after 01/2004) |
A4179-KIT | 5" Storz Lock Lever Replacement Kit (for couplings made after 06/2003) |
